Always here to help the helpless.

Wobbly Cat Rescue Has a Simple Mission:
To Care for Wobbly Cats and
Help Them Live Happy Lives.

We provide sanctuary, care, enrichment, and therapy for cats with Cerebellar Hypoplasia (Wobbly Cat Syndrome).  CH affects motor control, so these kitties just need some extra help getting around and doing basic things. CH cats can have a long happy life with the help of a friend to care for them. Our rescue also helps with some other special needs like Radial Hypoplasia (Twisted Leg Syndrome) as well as cats healing from physical/emotional trauma.

Mariko Downs

Founder of Wobbly Cat Rescue

Hi! My name is Mariko Downs, and I am the founder of Wobbly Cat Rescue.  I have been rescuing cats since I was a little girl. Originally, I started rescuing strays, then moved onto rescuing abused and traumatized kitties, and then I met Quake.

I adopted Quake (severe Cerebellar Hypoplasia) in 2019 and fell in love with Wobbly Cats. I realized that there was a dire need for someone to help these wonderful cats. I found that very few people even knew about CH, and it was common for Veterinarians to recommend Euthanasia for these cats. So, I opened my rescue in May 2021 to help local rescues care for wobbly cats and spread awareness.

Wobbly Cat Rescue is still just starting out and I run every aspect of the business by myself from my own home, but someday I hope to have a larger facility and employees so that I can help all the wobbly kitties that need assistance.  I just recently launched a community education program to bring awareness about this condition, and I work with local veterinary students so that they can recognize a cat with Cerebellar Hypoplasia and be able to know how best to help them thrive.

I have been working in healthcare since I was a teen and now I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist who still works full time in our area's leading blood bank (so I can provide for the kitties). I am also a disabled war Veteran who suffers from a neurological condition (Fibromyalgia), so I can relate to these cats and understand what it's like when your own body betrays / fails you.
